Neon Resonance
01 / Creative Concept
Neon Resonance is an experimental visual collaboration with electronic music label Waveforms Music. The project's core philosophy was 'synesthesia'—translating raw musical frequency bands directly into physical light impulses. We co-developed custom lighting triggers to ensure all light reactions happened live on set, captured directly in-camera.
02 / The Challenge
Typical audio-to-light controllers suffer from slight software latencies that ruin the feeling of instant reaction on screen. Additionally, high-intensity neon tubes blinking at high speeds can trigger screen flickering and camera sensor banding, while dark backgrounds invite sensor noise.
03 / Our Solution
Our engineering team built a custom, low-latency micro-controller interface that directly converted MIDI and CV (Control Voltage) inputs from the music synthesizers into corresponding lighting intensities. We shot at 24fps with a synchronized shutter angle on a high-sensitivity cinema camera, eliminating flicker while maintaining beautiful, deep black levels and neon glow.
