Echoes of Silence
01 / Creative Concept
Echoes of Silence is an immersive audiovisual journey exploring the poetic nature of desolate spaces. LastMill led the complete creative pipeline—from location scouting and multi-camera cinematography to custom spatial audio design and cinema-grade color finishing. The project was created to redefine how texture, decay, and atmospheric sound interact on screen.
02 / The Challenge
Filming inside abandoned industrial sites presented extreme acoustic and light control difficulties. The large concrete halls created muddy, uncontrolled reverberations that conflicted with our goal of high-fidelity spatial audio. Visually, mapping high-contrast sunlight streaming through broken windows while retaining details in dark concrete corners required precise exposure and extensive grading calibration.
03 / Our Solution
We deployed custom ambisonic microphone arrays alongside directional shotgun mics to separate direct sound effects from the unique room impulses. In post-production, we mixed the audio in Dolby Atmos, placing sound cues dynamically within a 3D bubble. For visuals, we shot on RED digital cinema cameras using anamorphic lenses, grading the footage in a custom color space in DaVinci Resolve to establish a rich, somber, metallic visual identity.
